The Clive Lions Club was first chartered in 1977. The Holiday Basket event has been conducted the past 29 years except in 2020 when, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, gift cards were distributed as opposed to the toys, food, and household items that were delivered this year.
Eighty-one families were chosen for this year’s program. Over 450 family members in our community were positively impacted by this event.
Each basket was customized based on the size of the family and number of children. One family had a total of 11 members, including nine children!
As our community becomes more diverse, this effort recognizes the needs of people new to the area and helps them with their transition into becoming our friends and neighbors.
Brad Brown, Lions Club President, said: “Ed Johnson and Donna Krupko are the driving force behind what you see here today. They set up the boxes and donations for our families. Their efforts help to make this event a success.”
Mayor- Elect John Edwards and Retiring Mayor Scott Cirksena and his family were among those helping. The volunteers included Clive Lions Club members, representatives from the Clive Community Foundation, Clive Community Services, City of Clive officials, and local residents.
Additional contributors included Smart Honda, Lifetime Fitness, MercyOne, ServiceMaster by Rice, Indian Hills Junior High, and Polk County.
Congratulations and Thank You to the Clive Lions for your work in our community!
