Clive Community Foundation Launches Annual Holiday Campaign
Nonprofit group seeking contributions to support Clive families in need
CLIVE, IOWA – Nov. 30, 2015 – The Clive Community Foundation will again join forces with Clive Lions Club to collect and distribute holiday gift baskets to needy families during the month of December. In 2014, the partners delivered care baskets to more than 50 families. With the early support of partners such as the Clive Community Foundation and Faith Lutheran Church, the campaign should generate more gifts than the previous year.
“We were so pleased with the generosity of Clive’s residents and the support of all of our many volunteers last year,” said Ed Johnson, Clive Lions Club. “We are well underway in collecting food and personal care items for this year’s campaign. But the need continues and we hope to increase the number of families served.”
Food basket recipients will include low-income families in Clive, most with students that attend Crestview Elementary. Currently, more than 75 percent of Crestview’s students qualify to receive free and reduced-priced school lunches.
“The need has never been greater and we look forward to finding homes for all of these gifts,” said Stephanie Horak, Crestview’s PTC outreach chair. “We appreciate the generosity, but also the time and effort a campaign like this requires.”
“One in 10 Clive families struggle to make ends meet and covering the basics is often difficult for many families – especially this time of year, when family budgets are stretched,” said Andrea Westmeyer, president, Clive Community Foundation. “That’s why we are excited to again support such a worthy cause in our own backyard.”
The baskets will be delivered on Saturday, Dec. 12. Additional participating partners include city of Clive employees, several local churches, residents and businesses. A complete list of holiday basket supporters can be found at clivecommunityfoundation.org.
The Clive Community Foundation – an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines – has spent the past year raising funds for key Clive initiatives. The primary projects include quality of life initiatives, community health and wellness, and defining and developing new opportunities of broad collaboration with other local cities.
“Every financial contribution to our efforts is welcome,” Westmeyer said. “We especially want to remind all donors to consider a gift to the Foundation and to take advantage of a 25-percent matching program through the Endow Iowa Tax Credit, which offer residents and businesses an additional incentive to give back.”
The Clive Community Foundation was formalized in December 2013 as an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. The CCF is a conduit for residents, businesses and other stakeholders to donate funds for the betterment of our community.
